The Coalition of Volta Youths has indicated it will go to court to \nseek redress following what it says are widespread irregularities in \nThursday\u2019s Referendum organized by the Electoral Commission (EC).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Simon Kofi Ohene, Chairman of the Coalition of Volta Youths, who made\n the intentions of the youths known, says assurances by EC to \ninvestigate regularities are not enough.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The EC says it is investigating allegations of vote rigging in the \njust ended historic Referendum on the creation of six new regions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Commission has vowed not to shield any of its staff found culpable and is asking the public to provide any evidence they may have to the police.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It follows the emergence of videos showing some supposed commission staff engaged in ballot stuffing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mr Ohene, speaking on Newsnite with Evans Mensah Friday, said \u201csince \nthe beginning of the process, there have been serious infractions and \nviolations which have not been properly addressed.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIn the actual fact, there were low voter turnouts but look at what \nthe Electoral Commission is putting out as the high turnouts\u2026votes were \nnot counted at the polling stations. Ballots were taken out to wherever \nthey have taken them, to go and count,\u201d a disappointed Coalition of \nVolta Youths Chairman said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He alleged that chiefs used local languages to convince their subjects to vote \u2018Yes\u2019 and \u201cthey were intimidating people even the MCE of the area went around driving off polling agents of the \u2018No\u2019 campaigners.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Asked if he does not trust the EC to do due diligence in \ninvestigating the allegations, Mr Ohene said the Commission before the \nReferendum showed bad faith by even defying a supposed injunction not to\n proceed with the exercise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe Electoral Commission that was served with an injunction not to go ahead with the election and decided to go on, how can I trust such institution,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to him, \u201cwe are in discussion with our lawyers to see what the way forward will be\u2026I\u2019m disappointed to be a Ghanaian.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When Evans Mensah pressed further for clarification if they will be going to court, he responded \u201csure.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“This is the last option as law-abiding people; the last thing you have to do is to go to court.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
