The\n Head of Banking Supervision at the Central Bank has hinted that \nmanagement will soon punish staff cited for their role in the \nliquidation of some banks. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Osei\n Gyasi has called for calm, assuring the public that firm steps have \nbeen taken to resolve internal issues at the central bank.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI think the work of the Ethics Department…is ongoing [and] is almost completed<\/g>; and very soon, the final report will be issued and management,\u201d he told Newsfile\u00a0<\/strong>host Kojo Yankson, Saturday. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

According\n to Mr Gyasi, Bank of Ghana staff specifically those with the Banking \nSupervision Division (BSD) and those who used to be there when some of \nthe issues occurred were questioned.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mr Gyasi, who has served in\n his position since 2017, admitted to Joy News last year that there were\n errors in bank oversight, causing the collapse of five banks last year,\n but he cautioned that under the current management, \u201cit won\u2019t be \nbusiness as usual.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He explained at the time \nthat what caused the banks\u2019 liquidations stemmed from lack of corporate \ngovernance, failure of the banks to comply with regulatory balances and \nmismanagement of administration standards. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Regarding the investigative report, he said on Newsfile<\/strong>\n that, \u201cmanagement will study the report and take the appropriate \ndecisions\u2026you can be sure that anyone who is culpable will be dealt with\n appropriately,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to him, besides\n the security agencies and other bodies are investigating, the BoG has \ntaken it upon itself to look into how \u201cthese things occurred and what \ngave rise to that.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mr\n Gyasi said, he is not speaking broadly about what is happening outside \nthe walls of the Bank as there could be criminal issues that could come \nup for the appropriate state agencies to take it up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The\n BSD boss disclosed that some persons have been invited to the Economic \nand Organised Crime Office (EOCO) to answer questions on their role in \nthe issue. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWhat I am saying is that from within, let\u2019s exercise patience, let\u2019s allow the processes to be exhausted and when the reports come out then we will see the decisions that will be taken by management,” he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He said Ghanaians should be joyous for everything that has happened in the banking sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
