Dethroned\n World Boxing Organisation (WBO) super bantamweight champion, Isaac \nDogboe, will battle with Black Stars and Athletico Madrid\u2019s ace Thomas \nPartey for the coveted MTN Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) \nSports Personality of the Year Award to be held later this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The\n annual awards ceremony to honour the nation\u2019s illustrious athletes will\n see the two top contenders of the highest award on the night being \ngiven a run for their money by football administrator Anthony Baffoe who\n is also gunning for the enviable honour for the second time after \nwinning the 2016 top prize.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The list of the over 40 nominees who are to be rewarded in their various disciplines was released last Saturday in Accra.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Partey\n will also challenge four others, namely John Antwi, a loanee from \nEgyptian club Al Ahly; Kotoko goalie Felix Annan, Kassim Nuhu of German \nclub, Hoffenheim, and Joseph Aidoo of Genk in the Belgian First Division\n for the Male Footballer of the Year award.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For\n her superb performance at the recently held Under-17 Women\u2019s World Cup \nin Uruguay, Black Maiden\u2019s striker Mukarama Abdulai will contend with \nBlack Queen\u2019s Faustina Ampah and Black Princesses\u2019 Grace Asantewaa for \nthe Female Footballer of the Year award.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The\n stakes will be high for Coach of the Year award as hockey takes centre \nstage, with Ebenezer Frimpong of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), \nBoakye Danquah (Exchequers) and Richmond Attipoe also of Exchequers \nvying for the award on the night.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Two\n teams will compete for the national team of the year award: The Ghana \nRugby Men\u2019s team, The Ghana Eagles, and national wrestling team, The \nGolden Arms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The\n president of the Ghana Armwrestling Association, Charles Osei Assibey, \nwill compete against Evans Kojo Yeboah, president of the Ghana Badminton\n Association, for the president of the year award.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lightweight\n world title hopeful, Richard Oblitey Commey, will have a straight fight\n with Isaac Dogboe for the professional boxer of the year award, while \nJanet Amponsah and Jesse Lartey will scoop the athlete of the year and \namateur boxer of the year, respectively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

National\n ping pong top seed Derek Abrefa and female ace player Celia Baah Danso \nwill be rewarded with the male and female table tennis players of the \nyear award, respectively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alberta\n Ampomah and Haruna Tahiru will take home the Armwrestler of the year \naward in both the female and male categories, respectively, while \nMichael Arko and Rafatu Inusah take awards in male and female rugby \nplayers of the year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In\n para-athletics, Frederick Assor and Haruna Tahiru will go home with \nrespective awards and golfer Kojo Barni takes home the professional \ngolfer of the year award.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Female\n athlete Hor Halutie is expected to be rewarded the prospect of the \nyear, while ping-pong player Samuel Akayade and hockey ace Dennis Ababio\n will receive awards for dedication and valour.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Boxing\n promotion outfit, Cabic Promotions will take the award for promoter of \nthe year. There will be eight special awards for individuals, corporate \nentities and persons on the night.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They are the Binatone Ghana Limited, Greater Accra Handball Association and kickboxer Jonathan Euro.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The rest are Casely Hayford Hall, Ghana Revenue Authority, Akwasi Frimpong, Kofikrom Pharmacy and Albert K Frimpong.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
