Results from a research conducted by the Political Science Department of the University of Ghana, have shown that President Nana Akufo-Addo will beat former president John Dramani Mahama hands down should elections be held today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Per the results presented by Head of Political Science Department, \nDr. Maame Gyekye-Jandoh, on Wednesday, President Akufo-Addo would have \nled the poll with 49.3% with John Mahama trailing behind with 33.3%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cFor Nana Akufo-Addo, 49.3% said they would vote for him, 33.3% said \nthey would vote for Mahama and 7.35 for Paa Kwesi Nduom,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She said the elections might head for a run-off since although \nAkufo-Addo may have taken the lead, he may not be able to cross the 50 \npercent plus one mark to be retained as president.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThese responses indicate simply and unsurprisingly that the two \nmajor parties are still the most preferred among voters, and secondly, \nthat there might be another contest between President Akufo-Addo and \nformer President Mahama during the 2020 elections,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Gyekye-Jandoh explained that two questions were asked \nrespondents, one being which party they would vote for if elections were\n held today, and secondly, which candidate they would vote for.\nShe said \u201c\u2026.48.9% of our respondents \nsaid they would vote for the NPP if elections were to be held today. \n32.2% said they would vote for the NDC, 3.3% for the PPP, 1.7% for the \nCPP, 0.4% for the PNC and 0.2% for the NDP.\u201d\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nana Akufo-Addo defeated John Mahama, then incumbent president, to become the president of Ghana in the 2016 general elections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Akufo-Addo polled 53.9% of the total valid votes, while John Mahama managed 44.4%, the worse so far for an incumbent President.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Double track, galamsey fight most disliked gov\u2019t policies \u2013 Report<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The research which sampled about 5,000 Ghanaians nationwide touched \non some areas including economy, education, campaign promises, \ngovernment policies and programmes among others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The researchers found out that one of government\u2019s most fiercely \npushed policies; the double track Senior High School education system, \nhas turned out to be its most disliked policy among the electorate.\nAt the same time, one popularly \nsupported policy; the fight against galamsey, is now the second most \ndisliked of government\u2019s policies.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The findings also show that the voters dislike the government\u2019s \ndrones for the health program, while a significant number expressed \ndisappointment at the government\u2019s job creation efforts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe government\u2019s most liked policy and most disliked policy are \nrelated to education. And that is what I find interesting. For the \nsecond year running, free SHS has been most supportive of government \npolicies. And yet only 33% said the double track was good, and 45% said \nit was not.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIndeed, double track is said to be the most disliked government program even though it was meant to facilitate free SHS by giving greater access; so a dilemma of the sort,\u201d Dr. Gyekye-Jandoh added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
