The National Democratic Congress (NDC) on\n Thursday said if ever Representation of the People\u2019s Amendment Act \n(ROPAA) would be implemented, it should be on an \u201ceverywhere or nowhere\u201d\n principle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the Party, so far as it was concerned, every Ghanaian \nliving everywhere on earth must be afforded the opportunity to vote in \nthe national elections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mr Peter Boamah Otokunor, the Deputy General Secretary of the NDC, \nsaid this at a media briefing in Accra to share its concerns on the \njust-ended referenda.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He said if the government and the Electoral Commission perceived that\n as an opportunity to let only living places where the ruling New \nPatriotic Party (NPP) supporters dominated to vote, to swing elections \nin NPP\u2019s favour, then they were grossly wrong.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He said the NDC was represented on the Advisory Committee on ROPAA \nset up by the Electoral Commission to work out modalities for its \nimplementation and there were several issues they would clearly \narticulate during the committee\u2019s deliberations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the Ghana Card and the New Voters\u2019 Register, he said the National \nidentification Authority (NIA) had failed to heed calls from \nwell-meaning segment of society to include the voters\u2019 ID card in the \nlists of identification materials for registration in the national \nregistration Exercise, yet, the same ID cards qualified voters, to vote \nin the just-ended referenda.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mr Otokunor said the Party would not accept any new electoral \nregister compiled based on the Ghana Card, which excludes voter ID cards\n as a means of identification or registration. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe NDC is currently holding consultations on the way forward for our members in relation to the on-going Ghana Card registration and we would be issuing directives in that regard in the coming days,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
