The Minority in parliament is calling on civil society\ngroups and think tanks to assist Ghanaians in demanding accountability from\nGovernment, with respect to latest announcement of a new discovery of 550\nmillion barrels of oil by Aker Energy in the Deepwater Cape Three Points in Ghana\u2019s\noil field.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A statement dated 14th January 2014 and signed by Mr. Adam Mutawakilu, the ranking member of the Mines and Energy Committee of Parliament said government\u2019s actions and inactions in the unraveling deceit has rather resulted in a loss of opportunity for the country to enhance the benefits of an already existing discovery for the country. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Aker Energy recently announced that its oil exploration in\nthe deep-water Cape Three Points block in Ghana has been successful and that\ninitial works done to show that its Pecan4A well in the block could be holding\nbetween 450 and 550 million barrels of oil.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
But the Minority are peeved; \u201cIt is evident that the Pecan\ndiscovery [which was made] in 2012 under President Mahama’s Government is now\nbeing treated by the Nana Addo\/Bawumia led Government as if it is a new\ndiscovery\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
They therefore called \u201con all well-meaning Ghanaians,\nespecially on the Institute for Energy Security (IES), the Africa Centre for\nEnergy Policy (ACEP), the Natural Resource Governance Institute, IMANI Africa\nand other think-tanks, to assist Ghanaians in demanding accountability from\nGovernment, with respect to the subject matter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
