\nThe opposition National Democratic \nCongress (NDC) says Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong, should not be \nused as a ‘scapegoat’ in the murder of Ahmed Hussein-Suale, an \nundercover journalist working with Anas Aremeyaw Anas because the real \nculprit might be out there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a statement, they has called for \n\u201cthe speedy apprehension and prosecution of the perpetrators\u201d and urged \nGhanaians to stop pointing fingers at Kennedy Agyapong as the prime \nsuspect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

NDC CONDEMNS BRUTAL MURDER OF INVESTIGATIVE JOURNALIST, AHMED HUSSEIN-SUALE AND CALLS FOR SPEEDY INVESTIGATIONS INTO INCIDENT.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The\n National Democratic Congress (NDC) condemns, the brutal murder of Ahmed\n Hussein-Suale, a member of the Tiger Eye PI, an investigative outfit \nheaded by Ace investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas. The NDC \nwishes to commiserate with the family and loved ones of Ahmed and all \nhis associates at Tiger Eye PI.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We pray that Allah comforts you \nin this difficult time and grant his soul eternal rest. This heinous \ncrime has shaken the media fraternity in Ghana to the core and has the \npotential to reverse the gains we have made in the promotion of press \nfreedom. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This incident also portends great danger for the \nalready-wobbly fight against corruption and reduces Ghana’s standing in \nthe comity of nations as a shining light of democracy and free speech. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The\n NDC adds its voice to the many calls by well-meaning Ghanaians on our \nsecurity agencies to ensure the speedy apprehension and prosecution of \nthe perpetrators of this cowardly act. We decry the recent spate of \nviolent crimes resulting in the brutal murder of five innocent Ghanaians\n within the last one month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The current situation evokes a sort \nof lawlessness that demonstrates failure on the part of the Akufo-Addo \ngovernment to live up to its most fundamental responsibility – \nguaranteeing the safety and security of Ghanaians. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

There is no \ndoubt, in the wake of the recent gruesome killings that we are in an era\n of contract killings reminiscent of the final years of the previous NPP\n Administration. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The impunity and nonchalance with which these \nmurders have been carried out point to an emboldening of the criminals \nbehind them, which stems directly from the unacceptably weak response \nfrom government and security agencies. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

We have also noted public outcry and demand for the arrest of Kennedy Agyapong, MP for Assin Central.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While\n taking a serious view of his outrageous call for the assault of the \nlate journalist and agreeing in principle with his questioning for \npossible involvement in this crime, we caution against the mere \nscapegoating of Mr Agyapong as a ruse to cover up a potentially more \nsinister plot behind this killing. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Given the huge embarrassment \nthe \u2018Number 12\u2019 video brought to persons at the highest levels of \ngovernment, especially the exposure of a bribe collection syndicate at \nthe Presidency helmed by President Akufo-Addo himself, we expect that \nany investigation into the killing of Ahmed Suale would be \nall-encompassing. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

We expect that no one, irrespective of their \nexalted position, would be deemed untouchable in the investigations. The\n rapid descent of our country into lawlessness and insecurity, \ncharacterised by these assassinations and gangster-style executions, \nspeaks to the weak leadership of President Akufo-Addo. Beyond flowery \nrhetoric, he is clearly unable to get a handle on the key issues \naffecting the people, not least among them security. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The current\n fragile and tenuous security situation prevailing in the country is a \nfurther demonstration of the cluelessness that has defined his \nPresidency. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is sad and disappointing that a government which \nhas in our recent history appointed the highest number of ministers in \nthe area of security, will superintend over the alarming and growing \nlevels of insecurity we are witnessing in the country today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We \ncall on President Akufo-Addo to put an end to his passive and aloof \nstyle of governance and adopt a more hands-on, problem-solving approach \nespecially in the face of the upsurge in violent crimes and unexplained \nkillings. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

We demand an immediate plan from the Akufo-Addo \ngovernment which sets out a clear and comprehensive strategy aimed at \nprotecting Ghanaians and halting these violent killings. The lives of \ninnocent Ghanaians are at stake and the President must act now.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
