Former\n President John Mahama has debunked claims that a National Democratic \nCongress (NDC) administration will abolish the Free SHS policy if given \nthe mandate to govern.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He said contrary to reports, the NDC is against not the policy and has no intentions to scrap it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mr Mahama said what he disagrees with and finds completely unacceptable is the double track system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI\n know the benefits of education to the fortunes of development and so \nNDC would provide the necessary infrastructure to accommodate all \nstudents at once.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The\n former President said his party started the free SHS programme with day\n students and was working gradually to provide the required \ninfrastructure to accommodate the students and could therefore not kick \nagainst it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He\n was addressing members of the NDC in Koforidua as part of his five-day \ntour of the Eastern Region to woo delegates to their upcoming \npresidential primaries to give their votes to him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mr Mahama warned that the double track arrangement under the free SHS could destroy the quality of the country\u2019s education.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He\n told the gathering to ignore what he said were unfounded allegations \nthat he owned a hotel in Dubai and had other huge investments abroad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Again, he said his government never issued the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Menzgold, Nana Appiah Mensah with a diplomatic passport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He equally discounted claims that his wife has any investments in the troubled gold trading company.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mr Mahama who is in the race for the NDC presidential ticket with four others asked the delegates to vote for him. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

He\n said he would bring victory to the party in 2020 and that Ghanaians \n\u201chave regretted\u201d the mistake of voting in the New Patriotic Party (NPP).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He pledged to work with everybody including his other contestants if elected by the delegates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWhoever emerges the winner, we should all support him to wrestle power from the NPP,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
