Leading cement manufacturer, GHACEM, has said the company is \nworking to attain it\u2019s three million tonnes production target by the end\n of the year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This will propel the company to meet its set target of producing and \ndistributing 60 million bags of cement in 2019, the Managing Director of\n GHACEM, Mr Morten Gade, has told the Daily Graphic<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cStrategically, what we are doing is to know the exact distribution \nchain. We are making sure that with every stage in the market from \nmanufacturing to the distributors to the retailers and then to the end \nconsumer, we know the market segment,\u201d Mr Gade said after the company\u2019s \nCustomers Appreciation Dinner at the Marriott Hotel in Accra.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Although a challenge, he said, the company<\/a> would this year ensure through strategic and innovative ways that it maintained its market position as the number one producer of cement in the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Renewed strategy<\/strong><\/ins>
<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last year, the company produced and distributed about 56 million bags\n of cement and hopes to increase the figure to 60 million at the end of \nthe year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis will be more challenging in the present moment but we will be giving the customers something extra,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He explained that although the company lost the monopoly as the sole \ncement manufacturer in the country some 19 years ago, the entrance into \nthe market by two new manufacturers last year changed the market \ndynamics which changed the company\u2019s marketing strategy too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWhen the market dynamics change, you have to change too so we \nchanged our marketing efforts, we did things differently and we had a \nmuch better and closer cooperation with the distributors and our direct \ncustomers and we managed to maintain our market position and our market \nshare despite two new competitors coming onto the market,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Asked what the company was going to do differently to ensure that \ndistributors of the company remained loyal, he said \u201cwe always make sure\n that we have the best quality of cement on the market and we offer it \nat a very affordable price\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the competitiveness of the price of GHACEM cement against others \non the market, he said, \u201cif you buy a Rolls Royce or you should buy a \nTATA, you don\u2019t expect to pay the same price.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Achievement<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

He said the biggest achievement of GHACEM all these years was its \ncommitment to the development of the nation and not just the growth of \nthe company\u2019s core business.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe have always been the nation builder in the sense that we are not \nonly providing Ghana and the Ghanaian market with quality cement but we \nhave at the same time made sure that we are committed to our corporate \nsocial responsibilities<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe have done more than just play the game as a cement producer, we \nhave produced quality cement but at the same time we are also giving \nsomething back to the society in terms of taxes, port duties, giving to \nschools, giving to clinics and helping the needy in the society so that \nkind of balance in the corporate philosophy of GHACEM is one of our \nbiggest achievements,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Commitment<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chairman of the GHACEM foundation, Nana Prah Agyensaim VI, who was \nthe chairmen for the occasion, encouraged distributors and direct \ncustomers of the company to remain committed to the course of the \ncompany and help it to grow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He said the company had since distributed some 530,000 bags of cement\n to charity and that it would have been impossible without the \ncommitment of the distributors and customers of the company.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cYou are direct contributors of national development through GHACEM \nyou have served a distinct role in the development of the nation,\u201d he \nsaid.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Appreciation<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

With soothing music from the Touch Bay band, patrons of the event, \nmade up of distributors of the company, as well as staff, were treated \nto a night of pleasantry with some of them receiving various awards for \ntheir loyal service and commitment to the company.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The best distributor prize was given to Mr Clement Effah who was full of praise for the GHACEM\u2008team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a short speech to show his appreciation for the award, he said, \n\u201cSome 4 years ago I walked into the offices of GHACEM through the advice\n of my then Sales Rep.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Joojo Essuman and met Benny Fiifi Eshun and his former senior colleague who led me to the Commercial Director Nana Philip Archer and my mission was to be part of the Ghacem family and fight hard to earn a place at the top of their team of hard working distributors,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
