The new U.S. Ambassador to Ghana presented her credentials to president Akufo-Addo and has taken up her duties as Ambassador.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking from the ceremony at Jubilee House, Stephanie S. Sullivan thanked the president for the warm welcome to Ghana. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

She\n highlighted the US-Ghana partnership focused on advancing economic \ngrowth and trade, strengthening regional security, and improving \ngovernance.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The\n Ambassador expressed her commitment on behalf of the U.S. government \nto support Ghana’s journey away from dependence on traditional \ndevelopment assistance, in line with President Akufo-Addo\u2019s vision of an\n increasingly self-reliant \u201cGhana Beyond Aid.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ms\n Sulivan underscored the long-standing ties between the two countries, \nhighlighting a relationship that goes beyond policy, and spans across \nfamilies and friendships forged through cooperation and exchanges dating\n back to Ghana\u2019s independence in 1957, and before.    <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Stephanie\n S. Sullivan, a career member of the Senior Foreign Service, class of \nMinister-Counselor was sworn in as US Ambassador Extraordinary and \nPlenipotentiary to Ghana on November 30, 2018.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

She\n formerly served as Ambassador to the Republic of Congo (2013-2017). Ms.\n Sullivan has spent half of her 32-year career in the Foreign Service \nworking in Africa or on Africa policy in Washington, D.C. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Most\n recently, she was the Acting Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for \nthe Bureau of African Affairs at the U.S. Department of State in \nWashington, D.C. after having been Deputy Assistant Secretary for \nCentral African Affairs and Security Affairs from January to August \n2017.

\nThis is Ambassador Sullivan\u2019s second tour in Ghana.  She previously \nserved as the Political Chief at U.S. Embassy Accra from 1997-2001. Ms. \nSullivan is very pleased to be back in Ghana. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

She\n and her husband John Sullivan have fond memories of living in Ghana \nwith their two sons.  Ambassador Sullivan\u2019s early experiences in Africa \nwere with the Peace Corps, serving as a volunteer in the Democratic \nRepublic of Congo (1980-1983) and later as Peace Corps Chief of \nOperations for the Africa Region from 1994-96 in Washington, D.C.    <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sullivan graduated from Brown University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Classics and from the National War College with a Master of Science in National Security Strategy.\u00a0 She speaks French, Lingala, and some Spanish.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
