{"id":2322,"date":"2019-01-29T08:17:16","date_gmt":"2019-01-29T08:17:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.aptnewsghana.com\/?p=2322"},"modified":"2019-01-29T08:17:23","modified_gmt":"2019-01-29T08:17:23","slug":"kidnapped-taadi-girls-still-in-ghana-gender-minister","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.aptnewsghana.com\/index.php\/2019\/01\/29\/kidnapped-taadi-girls-still-in-ghana-gender-minister\/","title":{"rendered":"\u2018Kidnapped Taadi girls still in Ghana\u2019 \u2013 Gender Minister"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Gender\n and Social Protection Minister, Cynthia Morrison, says there are strong\n indications that the three Takoradi young ladies reported kidnapped \nsince last year are still in Ghana.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Minister said although <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Human_trafficking\">human trafficking<\/a> has not been ruled out in the\u00a0disappearance of the girls, there is a\u00a0strong\u00a0likelihood that the Nigerian kidnap syndicate believed to be keeping them\u00a0has not taken them out of the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe\n don\u2019t think that the girls have been sent out of the country. They are \nstill here in Ghana but the Nigerian High Commission is also talking to \nhis colleagues out there,\u201d Cynthia Morrison said Monday evening on <strong>PM Express<\/strong>, a current affairs programme on MultiTV.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The\n Gender and Social Protection Minister a meeting on Monday with the \nNigerian High Commissioner to Ghana in a bid to discuss ways to find the\n three young ladies also provided important leads.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According\n to the Minister, the key suspect in the kidnapping saga, Samuel Udoetuk\n Wills, a Nigerian being held by police, had a fruitful chat with the \nHigh Commissioner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She\n said she could not share to the public details of the meeting between \nthe High Commissioner and the suspect, but they will help with efforts \nto find the girls.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Mounting pressure<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pressure&nbsp;has\n been mounting on the police and other state agencies to find three \nyoung ladies since the #Bringbackourtaadigirls kicked in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The  girls \u2013 from separate families \u2013 were taken from various locations in  <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Sekondi-Takoradi\">Sekondi-Takoradi<\/a> metropolis of the Western Region since last year and  nothing has been heard about their whereabouts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Priscilla\n Blessing Bentum, 21, was the first to be taken in August 2018. The \nstudent left home for choir practice but never returned. Her worried \nfather reported her disappearance to the police 24 hours later. It is \nnow known that she was abducted at Kansaworodo, a suburb of Takoradi, an\n oil-rich town.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Four months later, Ruth Love Quayeson also disappeared.&nbsp;The 18-year-old took a cab ride from her home in Diabene to the Butumagyedu Junction and never returned.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Priscilla Mantebea &nbsp;Koranchie, 15, was last seen on December 21, \n2018. She told her younger siblings she was taking a walk to a nearby \ntown, Nkroful and since then no one has heard from her.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/photos.myjoyonline.com\/photos\/news\/201901\/3745823139117_3782760407361.jpg\" alt=\"Priscilla Mantebea  Koranchie, 15, was last seen on December 21, 2018. She told her younger siblings she was taking a walk to a nearby town, Nkroful and since then no one has heard from her.\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The parents and other residents who have lost their children through  similar means on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aptnewsghana.com\/index.php\/2019\/01\/06\/takoradi-residents-hit-streets-over-rise-in-kidnapping-of-teenage-girls\/\">January 4, staged a protest in the town demanding  action from the police whose lackadaisical approach to the issue<\/a>, they  believe, is the reason their children remain missing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure><iframe allowfullscreen=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/6soJ2KK2XbU\"><\/iframe><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>While residents say seven teenage girls&nbsp;have been kidnapped, police \nrefute this claim and say only three girls have been reported kidnapped.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>\u2018Abandon\u2019 the girls<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Speaking on <strong>PM Express <\/strong>on\n Monday evening, Madam Morrison said it is likely that the progress \nbeing made by security agencies could force the kidnap syndicate to \nabandon the girls to prevent being caught.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;What\n I am thinking is that they can abandon the girls and run. That is what I\n am thinking&#8230;because it will be unwise to harm them\u2026I don\u2019t think they\n will harm them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;I  am praying that they abandon them where the girls can locate an access  road or something.
