{"id":2368,"date":"2019-01-31T08:58:26","date_gmt":"2019-01-31T08:58:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.aptnewsghana.com\/?p=2368"},"modified":"2019-01-31T08:58:33","modified_gmt":"2019-01-31T08:58:33","slug":"ayawaso-west-wuogon-security-beefed-up-ahead-of-by-election","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.aptnewsghana.com\/index.php\/2019\/01\/31\/ayawaso-west-wuogon-security-beefed-up-ahead-of-by-election\/","title":{"rendered":"Ayawaso West Wuogon: Security beefed up ahead of  by-election"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Police have beefed up security ahead of Thursday\u2019s by-election at the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Accra Regional Police Command said Wednesday there will be a high security&nbsp;presence at&nbsp;all polling stations, collation centres and all other relevant locations associated with the electoral process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Deputy  Superintendent of Police, Effia Tenge, who is Head of the Public  Affairs Unit in Accra, said in a statement that the police has a firm  strategy to ensure the safety and security of electorates, media  personnel and all accredited persons involved in the by-election.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The\n statement said further that the police will work with the Electoral \nCommission, sister security agencies and relevant stakeholders to ensure\n that all electoral materials are safeguarded to secure the&nbsp;integrity of\n the by-election.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As part of the security measures, police have banned the movement of motorbikes in the constituency during the election period.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The\n police explained that the ban of motorbikes is to safeguard peace in \nthe area and prevent their use to commit crimes such as the snatching of\n ballot boxes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.graphic.com.gh\/images\/2019\/jan\/30\/motor_compressed.jpg\" alt=\"Police ban motorbikes in Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The\n police have also warned political parties and the candidates to desist \nfrom the use of \u201cmacho men\u201d to protect the ballot boxes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some\n 600 personnel from the Ghana Police Service and Ghana Immigration \nService would be deployed to the Ayawaso West Wuogon during the \nelections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The seat for the constituency became vacant following the death of New Patriotic Party (NPP)\u2019s Emmanuel Kyeremateng Agyarko.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.ghanaweb.com\/imagelib\/pics\/74187699.295.jpg\" alt=\"Election Compressed\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Political  parties vying for the vacant seat are the New Patriotic Party (NPP),  <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aptnewsghana.com\/index.php\/2019\/01\/30\/ndc-pro-forum-calls-for-electoral-revolution-in-wuogon\/\">National Democratic Congress (NDC)<\/a>, Progressive People\u2019s Party (PPP) and  the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The\n candidates are Ms Lydia Seyram Alhassan, NPP; Kwasi Delali Brempong, \nNDC; William Dowokpor, PPP, and Clement Boadi of the LPG.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some 88,000 voters are expected to cast their ballots in Thursday\u2019s by-election.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure><iframe allowfullscreen=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/y6XY2UWMI6s\"><\/iframe><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>credit: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.myjoyonline.com\/politics\/2019\/January-31st\/security-beefed-up-ahead-of-ayawaso-west-wuogon-by-election.php\">myjoyonline.com<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<div class=\"mh-excerpt\"><p>Police have beefed up security ahead of Thursday\u2019s by-election at the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency.
