President Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has called for support to construct the National Cathedral of Ghana.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He made the call on Friday, February 8, 2019, at the Museum of the Bible in Washington DC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Prior to the launch of fundraising for the National Cathedral of Ghana, on December 28, 2018, the President\u00a0made a personal donation of \u20b5100,000, a demonstration of his commitment towards the building of the Cathedral.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The National Cathedral of Ghana<\/a> when constructed will have an auditorium with a seating capacity of 5,000 and\u00a0with its chapels and baptistery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There will be a house of music, the Museum of the Bible and an art gallery. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Mr.\n David Adjaye, the Architect of the Cathedral, the design will be a \ngenuine reflection of the art and culture of the good people of Ghana.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He\n described the high pitched and staggered roof as similar to the Akan\u2019s \narchitecture and the frontage will be concave and decorated with timber \nwith a semblance of Ashanti royal stools.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The launch was welcomed by the Most\n Reverend Charles Gabriel Palmer-Buckle, Metropolitan Archbishop of Cape\n Coast, Ghana, and a member of the Board of Trustees of the National Cathedral of Ghana. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

On behalf of the Trustees and the co opted\n members, the Archbishop expressed gratitude to the President for his \nfaith in their experience and expertise. He concluded his welcoming \nremarks charmingly in various Ghanaian dialects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mr\n Steven Green, the Founder and Chairman of the Museum of the Bible gave a\n rendition of how his rich experience and knowledge were solicited \nduring the initial planning of the building of the Cathedral and could \nnot be more grateful. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

He stressed on the importance of such an edifice and the need for rallying support of the President’s vision.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ghana’s\n Ambassador to the United States of America, His Excellency, Dr Baffour \nAdjei-Bawuah, described the President as an honourable man, a man who \nhas an intensity of intent for his vision in his introductory address. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The\n Ambassador assured the enthusiastic guests about the President’s dream \nand said: \u201cThe dream he is handling is not personal but national.\u201d He \nfurther reminded that \u201cthe Cathedral will not be anybody’s parish church\n but a nation’s parish church, a place to go to and make a submission on\n behalf of oneself and the nation, its everybody’s home.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ambassador\n Dr Adjei-Bawuah again said the yet to be constructed National Cathedral\n of Ghana ought to stand as a monument of God’s graciousness to Ghana.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The\n President began his remarks at the launch with a deep appreciation to \nthe Board of Trustees, Steven Green and the high number of people who \nhad graced the occasion as a sign of immense support for the \nconstruction of the Cathedral.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He\n shared the three pillars on which he believes are good reasons enough \nto humbly and passionately push for the nation to have a National \nCathedral.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The\n fact that Ghana has been spared civil wars, famine and endemics, it is \nproper to thank God by building him a House of Worship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Seventy-one\n per cent of the people of Ghana are Christians though diverse in their \npersuasions, the President was positive, the National Cathedral will \nserve as a unifier. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Supreme Court’s ruling on January 28, 2019, supported this assertion, the President added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I\n made a pledge to God, that,  if I become the President after two \nunsuccessful attempts in the 2016 Presidential Elections, I will build a\n Cathedral to the glory of God. This the President said is the third \nreason for his passionate appeal to raise resources for the Cathedral.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He\n was clear that the National Cathedral of Ghana will not be a monument \nto beautify the city of Accra but a place of convergence for the \nChristian community to worship, pray and promote deep national discourse\n on the role of the faith in nation-building.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The\n President was positive that just as Nehemiah motivated the people of \nIsrael to build the wall of Jerusalem, same God will prosper people both\n home and abroad to build the National Cathedral of Ghana to his glory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Chairman of the fundraising committee and a member of the Board of Trustees, Archbishop Duncan Williams appealed for great support and funds for the construction of the Cathedral<\/a>. He drew the attention of all gathered to Genesis 22 of the Bible and convinced them to give to this project to receive the blessings of Abraham from God.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event was attended by The Speaker of Parliament of Ghana Rt. Honorable Professor Aaron Mike Ocquaye, Ghana’s Ambassador to the United States of America, Ambassador Dr Adjei-Bawuah, Her Excellency Martha Ama Akyaa Pobee, Permanent Representative of Ghana to the United Nations, Right Rev. Offer Akrofi, Prophet Kusi Boateng, Kofi Dzamesi, Minister of Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Professor Emeritus Samuel Amoako8pm, Consular General New York and other government appointees and dignitaries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
