{"id":2594,"date":"2019-02-13T18:24:31","date_gmt":"2019-02-13T18:24:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.aptnewsghana.com\/?p=2594"},"modified":"2019-02-13T18:24:33","modified_gmt":"2019-02-13T18:24:33","slug":"goaso-is-the-capital-for-ahafo-region","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.aptnewsghana.com\/index.php\/2019\/02\/13\/goaso-is-the-capital-for-ahafo-region\/","title":{"rendered":"Goaso is the capital for Ahafo region"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>President\u00a0Akufo-Addo has settled on <a href=\"https:\/\/goo.gl\/maps\/ybVwhmUanYy\">Goaso<\/a>,\u00a0the capital of the Asunafo  North municipality as the capital for newly created Ahafo Region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He chose Goaso ahead of other towns such Mim, Duayaw Nkwanta, Bechem,\n Hwidiem and Kenyasi and&nbsp;formally made&nbsp;it known when he presented the \nConstitutional Instrument&nbsp;to give legal backing to the creation of the \nregion.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The ceremony took&nbsp;place at the Jubilee House on Wednesday, February 13.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hwidiem and Kenyasi reportedly presented a joint petition to the \nPresident to make the two towns, which are about three kilometres apart,\n the common regional capital.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Goaso municipality has a population of about 130,502, according \nto 2010 projections&nbsp;and a population density of 79.5 persons per square \nkilometre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is located between three major towns; Mim, Kukuom and Hwidiem. \nOther surrounding towns include Ayumso, Akrodie, Fawohoyeden and \nNkaseim.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It has a very rich vegetation cover. It boasts as one of the food \nbaskets of Ghana. The predominant occupation of the citizens is farming,\n which is Cocoa farming and food crops.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Food production in the Ahafo Region is very high as compared to  other parts of the country which led the New Patriotic Party (NPP)  government to launch one of its flagship programs &#8220;the Planting for Food  and Jobs&#8221; in this region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Business activities in the area are very low during off-cocoa seasons but very high when they start their cocoa season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The main market day of Goaso is Wednesday and on this day, people from near and far meet to transact their goods and services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There is one public Senior High School in Goaso called Ahafoman \nSenior High and Technical School, and a midwifery training institute. \nThere are however other private Senior High Schools and vocational \ninstitutes at Goaso.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<div class=\"mh-excerpt\"><p>President\u00a0Akufo-Addo has settled on Goaso,\u00a0the capital of the Asunafo North municipality as the capital for newly created Ahafo Region.
