The government has announced that this year\u2019s 62nd<\/sup> Independence Anniversary celebrations will take place from Thursday, 28th<\/sup> February to 8th<\/sup> March 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

President Akufo-Addo during his State of the Nation address,<\/a> last Thursday in Parliament, announced to the nation that the 62nd<\/sup> National Independence Celebrations will be hosted in the Northern Regional Capital Tamale specifically at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium on March 6, 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\nAddressing journalists in Accra on Sunday 24th<\/sup> February 2019,\n Deputy Information Minister Pius Enam-Hadzide said the Special Guest of\n Honour for the celebration is the President of Niger, His Excellency \nMahamadou Issoufou.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He said the theme for this year\u2019s celebration is \u201cCelebrating Peace and Unity\u201d. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe theme consolidates the success made in achieving peace and unity among the people of the North and also reiterates the fact that Ghana will continue to be the beacon of hope while remaining peaceful and also protecting its enviable record of being one of the most peaceful countries in Africa\u201d he told reporters<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Mr. Enam-Hadzide said the anniversary parade will be made up of 30 \ncontingents including security services, fire service, Customs, \nImmigration and Ghana Education Service (GES).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The rest are other interest groups including the Nation Builders\u2019 Corps (NABCO) trainees and the six newly created regions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Deputy Minister added that the Tamale celebrations will be a \nhistoric one particularly because it will be the first time the national\n celebration has been held outside of the Greater Accra region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe celebration will be happening some few months after \nthe President of the Republic; Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo has \nsuccessfully settled the age long chieftaincy dispute in Dagbon, a \nsituation that had its own debilitating effect on the progress of the \nregion for almost two decades\u201d he said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Government is however optimistic that moving the national celebration\n to Tamale will do a lot of good to the people of the North.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It will not only boost the local economy but also serve as an \nopportunity for the region to showcase its rich and diverse cultural \nheritage while canvassing for more developmental projects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It will promote local content and tourism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meanwhile, the National Celebrations Planning Committee has unveiled the anniversary logo for this year\u2019s celebration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The logo which is the \u201cfigure 62\u201d<\/strong> with an \u201cAdinkra\u201d<\/strong> symbol known as \u201cBi nkabi\u201d<\/strong> resonates with the theme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The symbol literally means no one should bite the other and it signifies peace and harmony.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here are key activities leading up to the event:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. (28th<\/sup> February 2019) – Christianborg Crossroad shooting Incident.<\/li>
  2. (Friday, 1st<\/sup> March, 2019) \u2013 Flag hoisting day, nationwide<\/li>
  3. (Friday, 1st<\/sup> March, 2019) \u2013 Muslim prayer and thanksgiving<\/li>
  4. (Saturday 2nd<\/sup> March 2019)- Tamale Peace Concert at the Jubilee Park.<\/li>
  5. (Saturday 2nd<\/sup> March 2019)- Year of Return<\/li>
  6. (Sunday 3rd<\/sup> March 2019)- Christian Prayer and Thanksgiving, all churches.<\/li>
  7. (Tuesday 5th<\/sup> March 2019)- \u201cRep the North\u201d, Northern Wear Day\/nationwide<\/li>
  8. (Tuesday 5th<\/sup> March 2019)- Reenactment of the Declaration of Independence at old Polo Grounds.<\/li>
  9. (Tuesday 5th\u00a0March 2019)- 62nd<\/sup> Anniversary fireworks by the Ghana Military at various locations before midnight<\/li>
  10. (Wednesday 6th<\/sup> March 2019)- Independence Day Parade at Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium at 8am.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n
