A security expert has cautioned President Nana Akufo-Addo against taking any hasty decision based on Anas Aremeyaw Anas\u2019 latest expos\u00e9<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mustapha Gbande told Accra-based Starrfm that the method deployed by \nAnas and his Tiger Eye PI team is \u201cunlawful for that matter the \npresident should be cautious in how he acts on such criminally procured \nmaterials from Anas.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to him \u201cpast presidents have acted hastily and very wrong \nin law\u201d by acting on works of Anas without any determination of guilt \nagainst the cited from the law courts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He continued: \u201cMind you every investigative piece has to be subjected to prosecution and prosecution is done by the state.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How then you go and investigate somebody, capture him on video which I\n call entrapment which is illegal and a criminal conduct. Go and show it\n to the public even before the person is convicted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWhat Anas is doing, what method is he using. I\u2019ve heard a young man \n(in the video) say that I\u2019ll fast track everything for you. For what? Is\n it Galamsey? Anas\u2019 work, how many people have been convicted so far? \nThe judges were only asked to step aside, who has so far been convicted?\n It is wrong for us to crucify somebody who has not been convicted \nbefore a court of competent jurisdiction.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He also urged the public not to jump to hasty conclusions in pronouncing persons caught in the video guilty. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cSo why should we go ahead and punish people who are caught on tape \nthrough an illegal means or an illegal investigation? Every accused is \ninnocent until proven guilty. Why should we punish him when we are still\n going to find out the authenticity of what Anas has done.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Anas\u2019 latest expos\u00e9 focused on president Nana Akufo-Addo\u2019s crackdown \non galamsey and how people he appointed to end illegal mining were \nundermining his effort.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the investigation, a presidential staffer, Charles Bissue, emerges\n as a facilitator for a company seeking to circumvent laid down \nprocesses to be given clearance for its mining operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He is seen receiving money to ensure the speedy \u2018clearance\u2019 of a \nmining company in order that it can begin mining as soon as possible. He\n is heard in the video instructing his subordinates over the phone to \n\u201cfast track\u201d the processing of the company\u2019s documents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Many more people connected to the work of the IMCIM, otherwise known \nas the Presidential Committee on Environment and Natural Resources, are \nseen in the video facilitating the payment of negotiated fees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Inter-Ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining, comprises the \nministries of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation (MESTI); \nLands and Natural Resources (MLNR); Local Government and Rural \nDevelopment (MLGRD); Chieftaincy & Religious Affairs; Regional \nRe-Organisation and Development; Water and Sanitation; Interior; \nDefence; and Information.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The committee was commissioned in March 2017 by President Akufo-Addo \nto sanitise the mining sector and also develop a roadmap towards lifting\n an indefinite ban on small scale mining that lasted for about 21 \nmonths.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The committee is chaired by Prof Kwabena Frimpong Boateng, Minister for Environment, Science, Technology, and Innovation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To support the committee, the president also inaugurated a joint security taskforce (Operation Vanguard) that patrolled mining areas in the country to enforce the ban, seize or destroy mining equipment of those who flouted the ban, as well as arrest offenders for prosecution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
