B. Danquah, Ako\nAdjei, Obetsibi Lamptey, Edward Akuffo Addo and William Ofori Atta known as the\nBig Six.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe attainment of Independence would not have been complete\nwithout mentioning the afore-mentioned heroes who toiled for Ghana&#8217;s freedom\nfrom the colonial masters\u201d, he emphasized. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr. Afriyie was addressing the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly and Effia-Kwesimtsim Municipal Assembly joint parade to mark <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aptnewsghana.com\/index.php\/2019\/03\/06\/tamale-ghana62-independence-day-celebrations-in-pictures\/\">Ghana&#8217;s 62nd celebration<\/a> at the Takoradi Jubilee Park.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The theme for the 2019 Independence Day anniversary was\n&#8221; CELEBRATING PEACE AND UNITY &#8220;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He told traditional rulers, parade contingents, students, teachers, among others gathered that the theme for the 62nd anniversary was timely because love for one another has been waxed cold while intolerance has also crept into society so much that citizens do not see themselves as one people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Touching on the recent kidnapping brouhaha in the Oil City,\nDr Afriyie commended the security services for their relentless efforts in\ntracking down the kidnappers.&nbsp; He advised\nresidents of the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis together with the authorities to\nbe on the lookout and fish out all those involved in kidnapping and also work\ntogether to bring back the missing girls. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Sefwi Wiaso Member of Parliament, Hon. Kweku Afriyie\nsaid holding each other in dignity will go a long way to knit Ghanaians as one\npeople. He also appealed to Ghanaians to be tolerant by respecting each other&#8217;s\nviews and personality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hon. Dr. Kweku Afriyie with his last Independence Day celebration address <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aptnewsghana.com\/index.php\/2019\/03\/06\/akufo-addo-champions-peaceful-politicking-in-independence-day-speech\/\">urged the youths not to allow themselves to be lured into vigilantism<\/a>. He noted that spreading Peace and Unity among every citizen can make a difference in the communities no matter the political affiliations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The 62nd Ghana&#8217;s Independence Day celebration held at Takoradi Jubilee Park was witnessed by the new western regional minister designate, Hon. Kobby Otchere Darko Mensah who double as Member Of Parliament for Takoradi Constituency, heads of various security agencies in the Western Regional and other functionaries. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>See more
