The Concerned Citizens of Tarkwa-Nsuaem Municipality of the Western Region today mounted blocs on the principal streets of the town to demonstrate their anger over poor roads in the municipality. The confusion that saw many divers and commuters stranded lasted from about 05:30am to around 16:30. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The demonstration by the concerned group is a follow-up to the one in September 2018 led by the Traditional Rulers in Tarkwa-Nsuaem on the poor nature of the roads during when the Minister of Roads and Highways, Hon. Kwesi Amoako Atta assured the Chiefs and residents that within a week the government of Ghana will afford the contractor “ASABEA” money to enable him “Asabea Construction” make progress on the road.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking to aptnewsghana.com, the residents and concerned citizens said they were on rampage because barely five months has passed and the Road and Highways Minister, Hon. Kwesi Amoako Atta has not been able to redeem his promise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The aggrieved demonstrators confirmed to aptnewsghana.com that the 4 kilometers stretch road specifically from Tamso to Wassa Agona, Tarkwa to Takoradi stretch are in deplorable state to the extent that pregnant women who ply on the route are the most affected in terms of visiting antenatal care resulting in miscarriages and other related health implications. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Presenting the petition at the Tarkwa-Nsuaem Municipal Assembly, the Concerned Citizens said Tarkwa and its environs play a vital role in the national economy with major commodities including Gold, Manganese, Rubber, Oil Palm, Bauxite and many more. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Addressing their grievances to aptnewsghana reporter Benjamin Bray they indicated that due to the common developmental challenges on 4km stretch, armed robbery cases are on the rise. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The dusty nature of the road to communities along the stretch and entire Tarkwa township also presents health hazards for the past decades. Respiratory tract infection according to the Tarkwa Municipal Health Directorate is on the rise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Samuel Kwesi Asare, Secretary to Tarkwa-Nsuaem Concerned Citizens said the situation at hand needs urgent attention from government and the nation as a whole. Moreover they have urged the government of Ghana under the auspices of H. E. Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo<\/a> to get the contractor “ASABEA” within a 2-week ultimatum to complete the long awaited 4 km road stretch which began decades ago. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The demonstrators burnt used car tyres halting vehicular movement for hours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
