President Akufo-Addo says anyone irrespective of the class found to \nhave violated the yet-to-be-passed Vigilante law, will be spared when \ncaught.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The President stressed that \u201cOnce Parliament passes this bill, everyone involved in vigilantism<\/a> will face the law \u2013 whether you are a Minister, Regional Minister, MP or not, once you are implicated, you will be prosecuted.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He said the Bill, when passed, will ensure that \u201cnot only the people \nwho are inciting the violence will be punished, but also the powerful \npeople behind them will face the full extent of the law.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

President Akufo-Addo made this known on Friday\u00a0at a durbar of the Chiefs and people of Sankore, at the commencement of a 2-day tour of the newly created Ahafo Region.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The President also announced, that the cycle of politically-related \nacts of violence and vigilantism that occurs in Sankore, in the Asunafo \nSouth Constituency of the Ahafo Region, is soon coming to an end.

\nAccording to President Akufo-Addo, the Vigilantism and Related Offences \nBill, which is currently before Parliament, when passed, should deal \neffectively with the worrying phenomenon of vigilantism not only in \nSankore but in all parts of the country.
\n 
\nExpressing his disgust at the spate of politically motivated violence in\n Sankore, he indicated that \u201cthis cycle of violence taking place in \nSankore ends today.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\nHe assured residents that, as opposed to what happened in the run-up to \nthe 2016 elections, where Sankore became a hotbed for clashes and \nattacks on residents, \u201cin the 2020 elections, I give you my personal \npromise, it will not happen here in Sankore.\u201d

\nPresident Akufo-Addo added that persons who resort to the use of \nviolence to win an election are, automatically, not the people\u2019s choice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIf you are, then there is no need to intimidate people into voting \nfor you. The people themselves will rally together to vote for you. That\n is what we want to see here in Ghana \u2013 peaceful, free elections. If you\n are going to rely on violence and bloodshed, then it would appear that \nyou are not the one the people want. I repeat, this will not happen \nagain,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The President continued, \u201cWe are not going to allow Ghanaian \npolitics, Ghanaian democracy, to be compromised by these acts of \nviolence and thuggery. It will not happen again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cSince October 2018, we have not heard any news of political violence in Sankore. We will continue to monitor the situation. I also call on you to be alert, and help me to ensure that peace continues to reign here in Ghana, especially here in Sankore.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
