<\/figure>\n\n\n\nAddressing\n a townhall meeting abroad recently, the Senior Minister said Ghana has \ngreat diplomatic relationship with China and intends to partner them in \nkey infrastructural projects citing the $2 billion Sinohydro deal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cToday,\n the main company that is helping develop the infrastructure system in \nGhana is Sinohydro, it is a Chinese Company. It is the one that is going\n to help process our bauxite and provide about $2 billion to us,\u201d he \nsaid.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“So,\n when there are these kinds of arrangements, there are other things \nbehind the scenes. Putting that lady [Aisha] in jail in Ghana is not \ngoing to solve your economic problems,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The comments have since attracted fierce criticism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Mr Ashigbey also notes that the message the Senior Minister\u2019s comment sends is critical.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cMessaging\n is so important. The message that comes from what the Senior Minister \nhas said is a fatal blow to the fight against galamsey. It is very \ndemotivating to everyone who is involved in this. <\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cI\n think there should be a correction of it from the minister of \ninformation right down to the president, something needs to be done \nabout it,\u201d the convener of the coalition told Joy News in an interview \nThursday. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Mr. Ashigbey argued that the damage caused to the nation\u2019s natural resources through the activities of galamseyers<\/a> is far more than the two\u00a0billion dollars which the Chinese may be giving the country in loans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cTo\n hear the Senior Minister, somebody who has seen a lot of seasons, \nsomebody who has a lot more experience than we have, give this \njustification that for two billion dollars we are prepared to sacrifice \n2.96 billion dollars damage that has been done to us is worrying,\u201d he \nsaid.<\/p>\n\n\n\n He\n added that \u201cIt is important to realize that as a country our today and \nour future is more important than the broth that we get today.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n![\"Aisha](\"http:\/\/photos.myjoyonline.com\/photos\/news\/201812\/9081838718098_9308520098734.jpg\")
