Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has appealed to political leaders to help build and promote unity and peace among ethnic groups in Ghana.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He observed that the unity being forged among Asante, Dagbon, Anlo, Akyem and other ethnic groups should provide a clear indication to a new spirit brewing in the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking at a durbar to mark 20th of his ascension to the Golden Stoo<\/a>l, he revealed that a lot of behind-the-scene efforts has gone into discussing the political differences that have plagued Anlos and Asantes people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Last year, I invited Anwomefia of Anlo to ponder over the curious state of political differences that have plunged relations between the two people,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe concluded that there is absolutely no reason why politics should be allowed to undermine the state of amity that has existed between Anlo and Asantes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt was formalised by Otumfuo King Kofi Karikari and King of Anlo entered into a sacred pact in 1865 never to wage war against each other. That pact led to the establishment of Anloga community which still thrive in Kumasi,” the Asantehene added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We draw attention to the significance of the presence of our brothers (Anlos) to this Addae-Kese because they provide the new clear signpost to a new spirit that is brewing in our nation. It is the spirit of a resurrected resurgent Ghana united by a common heritage and at peace with itself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe feel it our binding duty, therefore, in the presence of our noble gathering to address a fervent appeal to his Excellency our president, our former presidents and elder statements and leadership of political parties who seek to govern our nation to let this signpost guide us to our true destiny which is a vibrant Ghana developing in peace and harmony.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Asantehene<\/a> charged politicians to nurture this new breeze of peace by doing away with rancour,\u00a0bitterness and violence in political discourse.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOn this holiest days, we send a simple but powerful message to our political leaders; let peace reign upon our nation,” he appealed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For his part, President Akufo-Addo commended the Asantehene for efforts in resolving 17-year Dagbon chieftaincy dispute.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He said the Asantehene is not only a treasure for Ashantis but the entire country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
