Ofosu Ampofo declines CID invitation"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>National Chairman for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has formally declined an invitation from the Police Criminal Investigations Department (CID) as part of investigations into a recent spate of kidnappings and market fires.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The invitation, according to Samuel Ofosu Ampofo\u2019s lawyers, amounts to \u201cpolitical harassment\u201d and \u201cintimidation\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The CID summoned Mr Ofosu Ampofo, over\u00a0fresh allegations\u00a0that he may be connected to recent kidnapping cases as well as market fires recorded in some parts of the country. \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, Communications Officer for the opposition party,\u00a0Sammy Gyamfi, stated categorically that their\u00a0chairman will turn down\u00a0the invitation from the police.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The NDC Chairman\u00a0is already standing trial for conspiracy to assault a public officer and conspiracy to cause harm after he was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aptnewsghana.com\/index.php\/2019\/04\/16\/leaked-tape-case-adjourned-ofosu-ampofo-boahen-granted-bail-ghs-100k-each\/\">secretly recorded<\/a> allegedly outlining plans to cause mayhem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/photos.myjoyonline.com\/photos\/news\/201904\/4981110295746_2325096459076.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>His accomplice, Kwaku Boahene, who is Deputy Communications Officer for the party, is facing similar charges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Addressing a gathering at Jamestown, Accra on Wednesday, as part of his tour of coastal part of the country, flagbearer of the party and former President, John Dramani Mahama, described the allegations for which his party chair has been invited, as \u201cuseless\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mr. Mahama also cautioned the governing <a href=\"http:\/\/newpatrioticparty.org\/about-us\/\">New Patriotic Party<\/a> against setting the precedent where state security agency as the Police Service, will be used to \u201charass\u201d the opposition political party.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/photos.myjoyonline.com\/photos\/news\/201905\/7958489345076_5217632063767.jpeg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>On Thursday, May 9, lawyers for Ofosu Ampofo, Ayine &amp;
