The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD), Hon. Joseph Boahen Aidoo, has charged cocoa farmers to be business minded in operating their farms and to partake fully in the various programmes introduced by COCOBOD<\/a> to ensure good farm yields and to increase profits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Good farming practices, like pruning, the timely application\nof fertilizers and proper pests control are essential at all times, he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hon. Aidoo stated this while interacting with farmers in the\nAshanti and Brong Ahafo Regions, on the first day of his week-long tour of\ncocoa farms across the county.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He is accompanied by the Deputy Chief Executive in charge of\nOperations at COCOBOD, Dr Emmanuel Opoku, as well, as Directors and Research\nScientists from COCOBOD.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The tour is aimed at assessing the level of farmer participation in the various farm productivity improvement programmes implemented by COCOBOD; it is also to gathering first hand knowledge of the challenges facing farmers at different parts of the cocoa producing areas; and to hold farmer rallies<\/a> to interact with farmers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAs a cocoa farmer, you need to think of your farm as a business.\nAnd as a business person, you should always invest a portion of your profits\nback into your business. That is how you stay profitable for a long time,\u201d Hon.\nAidoo advised while interacting with Joe Bafour and his farm employees, during\na stop over on his eight-acre cocoa farm in the Ashanti Region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He added, \u201cIf you properly prune the crops, apply the right\nfertilizer at the right time and practice hand pollination, an acre of cocoa\ntrees can yield 20bags worth of cocoa. Make sure to investigate the cost of at\nleast two bags back into the farm. One bag can pay for your fertilizers and\nanother bag for pollination. You will still have 18 bags left. That is good\nbusiness.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The COCOBOD Boss was thankful to the farmers for their hard work and profound contribution to the nation. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

He encouraged them to implement all of COCOBOD\u2019s productivity programmes to increase their produce.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
