The National Girls In ICT Day was to provide mentor-ship for the female students in the Junior High School within the Western Region.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n
The nine local assemblies include Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis, Effia-Kwesimtsim, Ahanta-West, Nzema East, Amenfi West Municipalities, Wassa East, Shama, Ellembelle and Mpohor Districts.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n
The targeted girls were trained by resource persons from the various Community Information Centres in the selected communities of the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies concerned.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n
They also had the opportunity to hear from female achievers in the field of ICT, and were highly motivated to pursue careers in in that field.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n
Addressing the dignitaries, stakeholders and the female students, the Western Regional Minister said the Ministry of Communications facilitated the event.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n
He however urged, the MMDA’s, Regional and District Directorates of Education to ensure the continuity of the National Girls In ICT programme in the western region.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n
“I will ensure the essence of the programme becomes deliverable and reported annually by the Assemblies and the Regional Director of Education”, the western regional minister emphasized.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n
Stressing what Kwegyir Aggrey’s posited “If You Educate a Woman, You Educate a Nation”, the honourable Minister appealed to various stakeholders to continually encourage the Girl-Child to embrace self-actualization to the level that can carry her.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n
The Takoradi MP therefore urged the female students to take Information Communication Technology serious in their educational endeavors due to the digital nature of the globalized world.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n
Highlighting further on the Girl-Child, Hon. Kwamena Okyere-Darko Mensah stressed that the security agencies are doing whatever they could to bring back home the three Takoradi girls who were kidnapped last year.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n
He further commended the effort of the Ministry of Communications under the leadership of Hon. Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, the Member of Parliament for Ablekuma West constituency for bringing such important intervention to the western region.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n
At the climax of the event, students who performed excellent in the practical training and assessment were awarded with laptops and other entities while resource persons also received laptops for their sacrifice in providing and impacting the needed knowledge to the female students in Information Communication Technology.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n
