A Kenyan Senator, Professor Margaret Kamar has urged young African women<\/a> to build their capacities to help develop their countries.<\/p>\n

According to her, young African women should search for avenues to improve themselves.<\/p>\n

She told delegates at the Young African Women Congress (YAWC) 2019<\/a>, that the avenues to improve themselves are not limited to their locality but are available globally, through the internet.<\/p>\n

\u2018I\u2019m expecting you to research for opportunities to build your capacity, locally, nationally, continentally and internationally. Find capacity for yourself because you cannot give what you don\u2019t have.\u2019<\/p>\n

She made these remarks as the keynote speaker at the opening ceremony of (YAWC) 2019 on Monday, 22 July 2019. The event was held at the Bank of Ghana auditorium, at the university of Ghana, Legon in Accra.<\/p>\n

YAWC is an annual Pan-African event organized by the Gender Desk of Excellent Leadership Group (ExLA Group).<\/p>\n

ExLA Group\u00a0is a leadership based Non- Governmental Organization in Ghana dedicated to inspiring quality and transformational leadership across all facets of national life.<\/p>\n

The theme for this year\u2019s congress is “Grassroots Mobilisation for Women\u2019s Empowerment: Young Women Lead”<\/p>\n

Prof Kamar added that the young women present at the conference can only help improve the lives of ordinary African women if they improve themselves.<\/p>\n

After you have built your capacity then \u2018we will expect you to build the capacity of the grass root woman, because you will have options to give, you will have opportunities to share and you will be able to share from what you know,\u2019 she said.<\/p>\n

Young women from 13 African countries were present at the opening ceremony.<\/p>\n

The countries represented at the event included South Sudan, Benin, Rwanda, Cameroon, Uganda and Sierra Leon. Also present were representatives from Uganda, Ethiopia, Nigeria, Liberia, Kenya and Burkina Faso. Ghana hosted these countries.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0Minister for Gender, Children and\u00a0Social Protection, Mrs Mamle Cynthia Morrison also graced the occasion with a speech. She entreated the well to do delegates to aid the vulnerable in society.<\/p>\n
