The National Parliamentary Appeals Committee of the NPP, on Wednesday, September 11, 2019, presented its report to the NPP’s General Secretary, Mr. John Boadu, for onward submission to the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the party for ratification. This is in line with the NPP’s guidelines and modalities for the conduct of ths party’s parliamentary primaries for “orphan constituencies”, scheduled for September 28.<\/p>\n
The presentation of the committee’s report to the General Secretary, was witnessed by the National Chairman, Hon. Freddy Blay, at the party headquarters. In presenting the report to the General Secretary, the chairman of the Appeals Committee, Hon Mac Manu, indicated that the committee did a thorough work on the various petitions and appeals they had received from the some disqualified aspiring parliamentary candidates in order to adequately dispense justice. On his part, the General Secretary thanked the members of the committee for their invaluable service to the party.<\/p>\n
It would be recalled that, the NPP, on August 21, through the General Secretary, inaugurated a 9-member National Parliamentary Appeals Committee comprising Hon. Peter Mac Manu, Hon. Kwame Addo Kufuor, Hon. S.K Boafo, Madam Elizabeth Ohene, Hon. Cecilia Dapaah, Emmanuel Darko, Gary Nimako, Joyce Opoku Boateng and Evans Nimako. The committee’s mandate was to receive and resolve appeals emanating from work of the National Parliamentary Vetting Committee from the various regions.<\/p>\n
Out of a total of 292 aspiring parliamentary candidates who filed their nominations, 278 aspirants were cleared by the National Parliamentary Vetting Committee and the National Parliamentary Appeals Committee to contest in the primaries whereas 18 aspirants were disqualified while decision on some 2 aspirants has been deferred to NEC. The number of female aspirants stands at 29, and unopposed aspiring parliamentary candidates were 15.<\/p>\n
The submission of the report of the Appeals Committee paves way for the party to hold a National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, tomorrow, September 12, 2019, to ratify the report subject to necessary modifications. NEC, will also set the date and approve the guidelines and modalities for the conduct of the party’s primaries in constituencies where the party has sitting MPs.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
