Mayor of Sekondi-Takoradi Anthony K.K. Sam has met the media in the metropolis assuring them that the Akufo-Addo-led government has not run away from the promises made to the people of Ghana and pleaded with residents to bear with the assembly as it continues to tackle development head-on.<\/p>\n

The \u2018Meet the Press\u2019 among others was to avail to the media the various developmental projects being carried out by the government and address other concerns of the citizenry through their medium. He presented to the media a slide-show of infrastructural projects and policy interventions by the metro assembly with support from central government.<\/p>\n

Also present were heads of department at the Sekondi Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly, as well as professional, vocational and student groups within the metropolis.<\/p>\n

Hon. K.K Sam stressed for attitudinal change to deal with most of the problems facing the Sekondi-Takoradi metropolis, especially regarding sanitation and waste management.<\/p>\n

According to him, the perennial flooding within the metropolis is mostly caused by indiscriminate disposal of garbage. He also assured the gathering that the STMA will soon act on those building on water ways.<\/p>\n

The media, made up of representation from the local and national press brought to the attention of the Mayor concerns about poor roads caused by potholes scattered all over and huge vehicular traffic on the Takoradi-Effia-Nkwanta road as well as the Kojokrom section of the Takoradi-Cape Coast road.<\/p>\n

Also brought to the attention of the mayor was the night market activities of mostly second-hand shoe dealers and its attendant congestion at the market circle in the evenings. Mayor K.K Sam subsequently, assured that his metro guards will get on the ground to ensure free flow of traffic.<\/p>\n

The press wanted to know if there was selective decongestion of the central business area because the metro guards are seen always on the heels of petty traders while the black-market forex dealers go about their supposed \u2018illicit\u2019 business on the pavements meant for pedestrians.<\/p>\n

Mayor KK Sam also indicated that the Takoradi redevelopment project is still on course and that cabinet will soon approve for the project to start. According to him, the STMA intends to temporally resettle about 5.000 traders for the project to take off. He also assured that the ultra-modern car park project within the central business district is on course.<\/p>\n

Hon. KK Sam entreated the gathering and residents of the metropolis to vote \u2018YES\u2019 during the referendum that will see the election of MMDCEs. He said election of MMDCEs will enhance democracy while speeding up the country\u2019s development. According to Mayor KK Sam \u2018it is long over due for Ghana to take this step\u2019 and called on all to support government.<\/p>\n
