The Volta Regional Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Mr. James Gunu, in a press release said Ex-President Mahama would be received on arrival at the Ho Airport by party executives, Members of Parliament, and other stakeholders before moving to the durbar ground at the Jubilee Park.<\/p>\n
Mr Gunu said the Volta Regional Branch of the NDC was ready to give the former President a \u201chero\u2019s welcome as he joins the chiefs and people of the Asogli State for this year\u2019s Yam Festival celebrations.<\/p>\n
He said the Regional Chairman, Mr.\u202f Henry Ametefe and the Member of Parliament for Ho Central Hon. Benjamin Komla Kpodo, would lead a delegation on behalf Ex-President Mahama to pay homage to the Agbogbomefia of the Asogli State, Togbe Afede XIV at the forecourt of the\u202f Asogli State Palace on Friday.<\/p>\n
The Agbogbomefia sits in state on the eve of Saturday\u2019s grand durbar to receive well-wishers and their donations in support of the Festival and the Asogli Education Fund.<\/p>\n
This year\u2019s theme is: \u201cLets Eschew Greed and Unite for the Development of our People.<\/p>\n
Asogli Te Za, popularly known as Asogli Yam Festival is basically a harvest festival celebrated by the Asogli State and its surrounding areas such as Sokode, Abutia Klefe and Akrofu. The festival is celebrated annually by the Togbewo, Mamawo and the people of Asogli State in the Volta Region. It is celebrated in September to thank God, the gods and ancestors for a bumper harvest, and as an occasion to offer prayers for good health and prosperity.<\/p>\n
Mr. Gunu said the Volta NDC recognised the importance of the country\u2019s cultural festivals in accelerating socio-economic development and congratulated the chiefs and people of the Asogli State and wished them a blissful celebration.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
