Media personality and Loud Silence Media founder Kevin Taylor has questioned calls for a possible change of leadership within the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Western Region, arguing that the electoral performance under Regional Chairman Nana Toku should be a major consideration in any assessment of his leadership.<\/p>\n

In a statement published on his Facebook wall, Kevin Taylor expressed concern about what he described as attempts by some regional party executives to push for a change in the regional chairmanship despite the party’s significant electoral gains in the 2024 general elections.<\/p>\n

Taylor said he had no objection to individuals contesting internal party elections, stressing that internal democracy was important. However, he maintained that such contests must be conducted with decency, fairness and respect, without malice or unnecessary personal attacks.<\/p>\n

15 Out of 17 Parliamentary Seats: The Nana Toku Leadership Record<\/h3>\n

At the centre of Taylor’s argument is the NDC’s performance in the 2024 parliamentary elections, in which the party secured 15 out of the Western Region’s 17 parliamentary constituencies, leaving the New Patriotic Party (NPP) with two seats.<\/p>\n

The result represented a significant improvement on the party’s previous parliamentary representation in the region.<\/p>\n

Taylor pointed to the NDC’s victories in Mpohor, Sekondi, Essikado-Ketan, Kwesimintsim and Tarkwa-Nsuaem as particularly significant breakthroughs, noting that the party had struggled to capture some of these constituencies for more than two decades.<\/p>\n

He also highlighted the party’s victories in other constituencies across the region, describing the overall performance as an important achievement in the NDC’s political history in Western Region.<\/p>\n

According to him, the party’s performance under Nana Toku raises questions about the justification for seeking a change in regional leadership.<\/p>\n

‘What Has He Failed to Do?’ \u2014 Taylor Challenges Critics<\/h3>\n

In his Facebook statement, Taylor challenged those advocating a change of chairman to explain the reasons behind their position and identify what a potential replacement would bring to the party.<\/p>\n

He questioned whether there was sufficient justification for replacing a chairman under whose leadership the party secured 15 parliamentary seats out of 17.<\/p>\n

Taylor further argued that any discussion about leadership succession should be informed by measurable performance, organisational development and electoral achievements rather than personal ambitions or internal disagreements.<\/p>\n

He warned that allowing factional interests and internal disputes to overshadow the party’s achievements could undermine unity within the Western Region NDC.<\/p>\n

Focus Shifts to the 2028 General Elections<\/h3>\n

Looking ahead to the 2028 general elections, Taylor said the NDC’s priority should be to consolidate its 15 parliamentary seats and strengthen its structures in the two constituencies won by the NPP.<\/p>\n

The two remaining constituencies are Takoradi and Effia.<\/p>\n

He argued that the party’s next phase of political organisation should focus on identifying the weaknesses that prevented victories in those constituencies and developing strategies to improve its performance.<\/p>\n

For Taylor, the discussion surrounding the regional chairmanship should therefore go beyond individual ambitions and focus on the party’s broader electoral objectives.<\/p>\n

NDC Delegates Face Leadership Decision<\/h3>\n

Taylor’s comments come amid discussions about the future leadership of the NDC in the Western Region as the party prepares for its next internal electoral cycle.<\/p>\n

His intervention places the party’s 2024 electoral performance at the centre of the debate over continuity and possible leadership change.<\/p>\n

While internal party elections provide an opportunity for members to contest leadership positions, the debate also raises broader questions about how political parties evaluate their regional executives, reward performance and balance continuity with the demand for new leadership.<\/p>\n

Taylor maintained that the NDC must avoid unnecessary divisions and concentrate on strengthening its electoral fortunes ahead of 2028.<\/p>\n

He concluded by urging delegates to carefully consider the achievements, records and proposals of all aspirants before making their decisions.<\/p>\n

For him, the central issue is whether the party should prioritise continuity based on its recent electoral performance or embrace a different leadership direction.<\/p>\n
