Mpohor MP Hon. Alex Kofi Agyekum has explained that private sector boom in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration would create jobs with particular emphasis on the Mpohor area in the Western Region of Ghana.<\/p>\n
The Mpohor District was carved out of the Mpohor Wassa East District, with its capital at Mpohor, after Parliament passed a legislation creating additional districts across the country.<\/p>\n
The district abounds in oil palm, timber, gold and some reported iron ore deposits. It has one parliamentary seat in Ghana\u2019s parliament that was won for the second time by Hon. Agyekum.<\/p>\n
He has granted interview to Melody News\u2019 Joe Bright explaining business prospects of the Mpohor District under the in-coming NPP administration.<\/p>\n
\u201cI want to believe that pretty soon the district will be revived; people are going to see jobs being created once the business environment; the economic environment itself thrives\u201d.<\/p>\n
The Mpohor MP could not give any timelines; but he was sure that the NPP would create the enabling environment for the private sector to absolve more of the unemployed in the system. According to him, the \u201creduction, of the 17.5 % VAT, to 3 % flat rate, would just release a lot of funds for businesses to expand their output\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u201cMass production means you are going to employ a lot of more people because now you are getting your turnover, your profit margin is high, you can reinvest and expand your base and that means all other things being equal you are going to engage more hands\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Furthermore \u201cthere is going to be a removal of the special petroleum tax of 17.5 % and that would further reduce the input cost of some of the products\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe know that once a government is voted into power\u2026it would be erroneous for people to think that we going to bring an articulator track into the district that everybody should come on board we are going to give you job in Accra, that is not the case\u201d, Hon. Agyekum cautioned.<\/p>\n
He revealed that the new government is yet to draft its budget and carve a road map to revive the economy.<\/p>\n
\u201cBefore parliament went on recess we passed a recurrent budget for three months, so for now what we are going to experience within the three months is a budget that was prepared by the previous government\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u201cAfter the three months we would have gotten the final handing over notes, we would have seen the various ministries and the mess which have been created there, and then from there we would launch a recovery method to resuscitate the economy and see where we can go forward\u201d.<\/p>\n
The NPP MP said \u201cI have a strong hope that we have the men and women to be able to deliver\u201d<\/p>\n
