President Nana Addo Danquah Akufo Addo continues to receive heavy bashing for appointing 110 ministers to serve in his government.<\/p>\n
The minority side in Ghana\u2019s parliament has described the appointments as \u201celephant-sized\u201d and wants the number reduced. Some civil society groups, including CDD-Ghana and IMANI, have also urged Nana Akufo Addo to slash the size of the ministerial and deputy appointments.<\/p>\n
But the President sees nothing of it, defending that, the challenges facing the country are unprecedented and require that 110 appointments be made to address the challenges.<\/p>\n
In the latest rant, IT Consultant Arnold Appiah tells Melody News, Joe Bright that President Akufo Addo should not put too many captains in a ship and expect to get the job done.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou don\u2019t put too many captains in a ship and expect to get the job done, there should be only the captain and the implementers, they are supposed to be more and ministers are not implementers \u2013 they are advisors; It\u2019s the chief director, the social worker, the agric extension officer who would get the job done\u201d.<\/p>\n
Mr Appiah noted there are government agencies such as the NCCE that needs resources to function effectively; and also a large pool of graduates who are most needed at the grassroots to get the job done.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe don\u2019t need seven ministers at the top, knowing that they are not going to go to the grassroots\u2026the job is at the grassroots not at the top\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe polytechnics when they come out they don\u2019t come out has ministers, they come out has technical people who are going to the mechanical areas, the construction sites and other areas to get their hands dirty to get the job done\u201d<\/p>\n
Mr Appiah further noted that \u201cthe amount of money you spend on a minister can be spent on fifty people for a year and that fifty people can also feed a hundred people\u201d. He said Ghana needs the technocrats more; rather than politicians.<\/p>\n
