Minister of State in-charge of tertiary education Prof Kwesi Yanka has visited the embattled University Education Winneba to interact with management of the school following recent drama over the law suit that saw the school closing down for some days, though students are on vacation.<\/p>\n

Authorities had opened the school for business but lecturers also embarked on strike and announced they were joining in the suit against the claims and reliefs sought by the plaintiff. In the substantive case, former Assemblyman of Donkoryiem, Supi Kofi Kwayera is questioning the legality of the university\u2019s governing council whose mandatory four year term expired in 2013.<\/p>\n

Among other reliefs, if granted by the court, both students [estimated 6,000] and faculty members may lose their certificates, appointments and in some cases promotions.<\/p>\n

Deputy Registrar of the University Stephen Kammasah told XYZ News\u2019 Joe Bright Nyarko the Minister who was briefed on the current development at the predominantly teacher training institution, assured management a new Governing Council would be constituted very soon to steer their affairs, prime of which was the current litigation. \u201cThey as government have also realised that this council has to be constituted, so he is carrying our concerns to government for the council to be reconstituted in a matter of few days\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Mr. Stephen Kammasah explained that \u201cthe Governing Council can even be reconstituted today. It doesn\u2019t depend on the resolution of the case in court\u201d. Furthermore, \u201cthe case in court is about an allegedly expired term of office of a previous council, so this new council has nothing to do with the previous council that is a matter for litigation.<\/p>\n
