Akufo-Addo and NPP painting Ghana black with vigilantism – Mahama

jdm on militia groups
John Dramani Mahama

The National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) presidential candidate for the 2020 elections, John Dramani Mahama has described as ‘’harrowing’’ Joy News’ latest documentary on political party militia in the country. According to Mr. Mahama, the NPP government continues to paint the country black because of their involvement and support for vigilante activities. The former president in a tweet said the Akufo-Addo administration is producing ‘enough paint to paint the whole nation black”.

Mahama’s reaction to the Joy News documentary is no different from what majority of Ghanaians are saying. Joy News investigations reveal there is a militia group within the New Patriotic Party (NPP), which appears to have the backing of government. De-Eye Group is allegedly training at the Christiansbourg Castle popularly called the Osu Castle in Accra. Mind you the Osu Castle is security installation.

And this is a training ground and headquarters of De-Eye Group, a militia group affiliated to the governing NPP. Joy News on Thursday, March 8, 2019 aired the documentary which showed a former personal bodyguard of the sitting president leading and training a pro-government militia group at the Osu Castle.

The documentary opined that the group received considerable state support, training in the presidency Annex since the party won power in 2017. Choman, the leader of the group is also alleged to have his office inside the Presidency Annex.
