Uneasiness stalls ‘one million per constituency’ public toilet facility near Essikado Hospital

stalled toilet project at Essikado

There are some reservations about the siting of an alleged ‘one million per constituency’, 10-seater public toilet facility near the Essikado Government Hospital in the Essikado-Ketan Sub-Metro of the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis of the Western Region.

Aptnewsghana.com has gathered some elements within the health facility are opposed to the siting of the public toilet facility too close for comfort.  A source disclosed to aptnewsghana reporter Benjamin Bray that there is dissatisfaction about the construction of the new boi-digester public toilet facility; saying, ” We are not against the project but its closeness is our major concern “.

Benjamin Bray for the past six months has been monitoring the ongoing project for the Essikado Community being executed by central government. But surprisingly the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly is not aware of project.

Further information gathered indicates that the Essikado Traditional Council led by Nana Kobina Nketsia (V) was not even consulted before the contractor of the project laid the foundation. The project currently at the ‘footings’ stage of construction has been abandoned for the past three months. The cause of the delay is not clear.

However, there are rumors the abandoned project is part of government’s “One Million Per Constituency” project promised during the 2016 general elections campaign by the New Patriotic Party’s flagbearer now the president of the republic of Ghana, Nana Addo Danquah Akufo- Addo.

Aptnewsghana.com reporter Benjamin Bray is yet to establish these rumors surrounding the funds for the project and probe further the motivation for the opposition given that bio-digesters do not pose sanitation challenges and could even serve the Essikado Community and OPD clients of the hospital.
