
The Management and Staff at the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital on Thursday 19th September 2019 are elated about their 3rd position in the 2019 Peer Review League table by the Western Regional Ghana Health Service. The staff members said the current position is as a result of effective collaboration and teamwork among the entire health workers in the facility.
The annual Peer Review League in its 8th year, seeks to assess health facilities to improve the quality of health delivery in the 20 government hospitals in the western region. The review is based on systematic areas such as Environment, Infection Prevention and Control, Emergency Service and Systems, Quality Assurance, Clinical Practices, Client Care, Occupational Health and Safety and Governance.
It is believed that before the inception of the Peer Review activities in the region, Hospitals were “No Go Areas” without basic things such as place of convenience, poor condition of Infection Prevention Control and inability of drugs among other things.
Speaking to aptnewsghana correspondent Benjamin Bray, the Medical Director at the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital Dr. Joseph Kojo Tambil stated that decades ago things were not properly done at the health facility but due to the current Peer Review League table position he believes that things are gradually on course. He added that his aspiration in the next two years is seeing Effia-Nkwanta regional hospital rising to become the best regional health care facility in Ghana
Dr. Tambil therefore appealed to residents and stakeholders in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis to maintain the trust and confidence in Effia-Nkwanta regional hospital in terms of health care delivery.
The Deputy Director for Clinical Care at the Ghana Health Service, Western Region Dr. Atsu Dodor applauded the of Effia-Nkwanta regional hospital staffs for working extra hard in the 2019 Peer Review assessment.
“It is the hope of the western regional Ghana Health Service that Effia-Nkwanta will sustain its current standard with further improvement to be a regional on the expectations of the Sekondi-Takoradi indigenes”, he added
The 2019 District Peer Review saw Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital securing the 3rd position with a score of 90.7% followed by Essikado Government Hospital on the 5th position with 90.5%, Kwesimintsim Hospital 15th position with 86.1%, Takoradi Hospital 16th position scoring 84.9%, whiles Ahmadiyya Muslim Hospital attaining the 17th position on the league table, 83.0%.
On the Regional scoring Kwesimintsim Hospital secured the 6th position on the league table with a score of 91.7%, Takoradi Hospital occupied the 11th position with a score of 90.2%, Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital 14th position with 79.2%, Essikado Government Hospital at the 17th position with a score of 73.8% and Ahmadiyya Muslim Hospital attaining the 20th position on the league table with 55.7% score.
