Ghanaian teenager Javits Frimpong, 15, has been shot dead in the Bronx. His father raises concerns over alleged school bullying as police investigate.
The Government of Ghana has pledged its full support to the family of 15-year-old Javits Badu Nkansah Frimpong, the Ghanaian teenager fatally shot in the Bronx, New York, with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs promising to work with US authorities to ensure justice is served.
In a press statement issued on Friday, October 30, 2026, the Ministry condemned the killing and expressed the government’s deepest condolences to the bereaved family.
Javits was shot by unidentified assailants at about 9:20 a.m. on Thursday, October 29, while on his way to school in the Bronx.
The incident has sparked grief among family members and members of the Ghanaian community, as calls grow for a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the teenager’s death.
The Ministry disclosed that Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa had spoken directly with Javits’ father, Thomas Frimpong, on Friday morning to express condolences and assure him of the government’s support in pursuing justice.
Speaking on behalf of President John Dramani Mahama, the Minister conveyed the government’s sympathy to the grieving family.
“We will pursue justice, and we’ll make sure that those who did this do not get away with it,” Mr Ablakwa assured the bereaved father.
The Minister further expressed the government’s anguish over the tragedy, stating: “We are all saddened. We are all distraught. He did not deserve this.”
The assurance signals the government’s commitment to supporting the family as investigations continue into the fatal shooting.
According to the Ministry’s statement, officials from Ghana’s Permanent Mission in New York visited Thomas Frimpong and his family at their residence on Friday morning.
The visit was intended to convey the government’s condolences, solidarity and support during the family’s difficult time.
The Ministry also confirmed that it and Ghana’s Permanent Mission in New York would actively pursue justice in collaboration with US authorities.
It added that the government stood ready to provide the family with appropriate legal and consular assistance.
The intervention is intended to ensure that the bereaved family receives the necessary diplomatic support as the investigation progresses.
The Government of Ghana has called on the relevant authorities in the Bronx, New York, to conduct a thorough investigation into the killing and ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.
The Ministry condemned the incident and reiterated Ghana’s commitment to protecting the safety, dignity and well-being of its citizens, regardless of where they live.
The statement emphasised that Ghana would continue to work with the relevant US authorities to pursue accountability in the case.
The government also extended its thoughts and prayers to Javits’ relatives, friends and loved ones in the United States and Ghana, particularly his mother, Doris Adu Gyamfi, who resides in Kumasi.
Javits, aged 15, was fatally shot near East 171st Street and Crotona Place in the Claremont section of the Bronx on Thursday morning.
Reports from US media indicate that the teenager suffered a gunshot wound to the abdomen and was taken to hospital, where he later died.
The teenager had reportedly moved from Ghana to the United States about a year ago to join his father and pursue his education.
His death has devastated his family and raised concerns about the safety of young people in the area.
In earlier media reports, Thomas Frimpong said his son had complained about being bullied by other students at school.
The father indicated that school authorities had previously contacted him about an incident involving Javits and two other students, who were reportedly suspended following the incident.
He also said his son had described repeated harassment at school.
However, authorities have not publicly established whether the reported bullying was connected to the fatal shooting. The circumstances and motive for the killing remain subject to investigation.
The family is seeking justice as police work to identify those responsible.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs concluded its statement by reaffirming Ghana’s commitment to the welfare of its citizens around the world.
The government’s response underscores the role of Ghana’s diplomatic missions in supporting citizens and their families when serious incidents occur abroad.
For Javits’ family, however, the immediate priority remains justice for a teenager whose life was cut short while making his way to school.
As investigations continue, the family and the Ghanaian community will be looking to US authorities for answers and accountability.
