WR. Minister, Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah

For approximately 15 years, the Sekondi Traditional Area has been without a substantive chief who can lead and steer the affairs of Sekondi and its nearby communities in terms of progressive development.

Some time ago the Concerned Youths of Sekondi became agitated and organized a peaceful demonstration to petition various key stakeholders Including, the Western Regional House of Chiefs, the then Western Regional Minister and Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Chief Executive to assist find a lasting solution to the chieftaincy dispute but to no avail.

The dispute which is pending before the regional house of chiefs is also a concern to some chiefs in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis including the chief of Anaji, Nana Ekra Kojo (IV) who has appealed to the Ebiradze Royal Family of Sekondi to redraw the issue and suggested a settlement at the traditional council to foment unity and also for lasting peace to prevail.

Speaking to Nananom and other dignitaries at the just ended 2019 maiden edition of Anaji Home Coming Festival grand durbar, the Western Regional Minister and MP for Takoradi constituency, Hon. Kobby Otchere Darko Mensah said though government does not involve itself in chieftaincy disputes; he assured government effort to assist the western regional house of chiefs to get amicable solution to the Sekondi Chieftaincy dispute.

Addressing the traditional rulers on other relevant issues, the western regional minister stated that due to the massive improvement of tourism in the oil city, the western region will be the best destination and shall lead its counterpart central region in 2020 on tourism. He emphasized with reference to Nkontompo community establishing the biggest and best museum in Ghana opposite the Effia Nkwanta regional hospital.

Hon. Kobby Otchere Darko Mensah indicated that because of low performance on making the cities clean the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies use over 30% to 50% of Internal Generated Funds to improve sanitation in each of the MMDAs.

The MP for Takoradi therefore used the podium to urge Nananom within the Anaji Community to address the sanitation issues at the least opportunity.
