Sakumono Double Murder: Police Arrest Key Suspect Samuel Osei Anto from Hideout

The Ghana Police Service has arrested Samuel Osei Anto Christopher, the principal suspect in the killing of two relatives at NTHC Estate, Sakumono, following a manhunt launched after the October 30, 2026, shooting incident.

The suspect, who had been declared wanted by the police, was arrested at his hideout on Sunday, November 1, 2026.

The arrest was confirmed by the Ghana Police Service in a brief update on the investigation, bringing an end to the search for the man accused of fatally shooting 57-year-old George Atuguba and his 47-year-old niece, Irene Atuguba.

In its announcement, the Police stated:

“The key suspect in the Sakumono murder case, Samuel Osei Anto Christopher, who was on the run, has been arrested from his hideout. Full details will be communicated.”

The Police have not yet disclosed the exact location where the suspect was arrested or the circumstances surrounding his capture. Further information is expected as investigations progress.

GH¢100,000 reward preceded arrest

Suspect, Samuel Christopher Osei Anto

The arrest comes barely two days after the Police declared Osei Anto wanted and announced a GH¢100,000 reward for credible information that would lead to his apprehension.

The reward was announced following the arrest of 47-year-old Beatrice Mumuni, who was picked up in connection with the double murder.

According to preliminary police investigations, Mumuni is believed to have led Osei Anto to the residence of the deceased before the fatal shooting.

The Police had appealed to members of the public with information about the suspect’s whereabouts to contact the nearest police station or call the emergency numbers 191 and 18555.

His subsequent arrest means investigators can now question him directly about the events that culminated in the deaths of the two relatives.

Alleged GH¢500,000 debt dispute behind killings

Preliminary investigations by the Police suggested that the incident may have been triggered by a financial disagreement involving George Atuguba and the principal suspect.

According to the police account, George Atuguba had allegedly borrowed GH¢500,000 from Osei Anto but had failed to repay the money.

On the morning of Friday, October 30, the suspect reportedly visited the victims’ residence at NTHC Estate, Sakumono, accompanied by Beatrice Mumuni, to demand repayment.

A misunderstanding allegedly developed during the encounter, resulting in Osei Anto reportedly shooting George and his niece, Irene.

The two victims sustained gunshot wounds and were rushed to hospital, where they were pronounced dead.

Their bodies were subsequently deposited at the Police Hospital Mortuary for preservation and autopsy.

The alleged debt dispute remains part of the preliminary police account and will require further investigation and evidence to establish the full circumstances.

Female suspect already in police custody

Beatrice Mumuni, 47, was arrested shortly after the incident.

The Police suspect that she played a role in facilitating the visit to the victims’ residence before the shootings.

Her arrest preceded the declaration of Osei Anto as a wanted person and the announcement of the GH¢100,000 reward.

With the principal suspect now in custody, investigators are expected to examine the respective roles of the two suspects and establish what transpired before, during and after the shooting.

What happens next?

The arrest represents an important development in the investigation, but it does not conclude the criminal proceedings.

The Police are yet to provide comprehensive details about the arrest, including where the suspect was hiding, how investigators tracked him down and whether other persons may have been involved.

Investigators will also need to establish the circumstances surrounding the alleged financial dispute, the events leading to the shooting and the evidence connecting the suspects to the deaths.

The case is expected to attract further public attention as Ghanaians await additional information from the Police.

For now, the major development is that the man who had been declared wanted over the deaths of George Atuguba and Irene Atuguba has been arrested.

APT News Ghana will continue to follow the investigation and provide updates as further official information becomes available.
