#BringBackOurTaadiGirls: Joe Ghartey consoles families of victims

The Member of Parliament for the Essikado-Ketan Constituency of the Western Region, Hon. Joe Ghartey has pleaded with the families of the three kidnapped girls from Takoradi, and Ghanaians at large, to have trust in the Ghana Police Service to eventually locate where the three are.

The Police Service, especially the Western Regional Command, has come under barrage of criticisms for the manner in which they have handled the kidnapping of the three girls. Some residents have even gone further to demand for the transfer of the Western Regional Commander of the Ghana Police Service, DCOP Vincent Redeemer Dedjoe, for what they describe as his show of ‘incompetence’ in handling the issue.

But, Hon. Joe Ghartey, who has been a legal practitioner for close to thirty (30) years, said the Ghana Police has what it takes to get to the bottom of this matter satisfactorily, adding that the family, and the country at large, must have trust in the Ghana Police Service to deliver in this matter.

“I also want to assure them that the Ghana Police will work in their interest. I have confidence in the Ghana Police. I have been a law professional for close to thirty years. I have dealt with the police throughout, and they have impressed me. I’m just praying that they will be able to, once again, do what they have to do to get to the bottom of this matter,” he said.

Hon. Joe Ghartey said this when he visited families of the three kidnapped girls to sympathize with them, and also to assure them of government’s commitment towards finding the missing girls. He stated that as the government is responsible for law and order in the country, it will, through the Ghana Police Service, do its best to unravel the mystery surrounding the disappearance of these young girls.

“The assurance that comes from government is the fact that government is responsible for law and order; the top hierarchy of the Police Service in the Region are here, they will do their best. I personally have a lot of confidence in the Police Service, and the Police Service works with people, and so we will use this opportunity to also say that if anybody has any information that can help, or has seen anything that is strange, the person should share it with the Police because the Police works with us, and are there for us,” he stated.

The MP, from whose constituency two of the girls are from; Diabenekrom and Nkroful, assured the families that the government and all the MPs in the Metropolis will be with them throughout the court processes, and that they should not feel that they have been left alone to their fate.

Hon. Joe Ghartey said Government, and all the MPs are concerned about the development, and are hoping that the presence of government functionaries and the Police in the communities will help people to come out with more information that will help in the mission to rescue the missing girls.

“We are all very anxious. I mean I have daughters, and even if you don’t have children, somebody’s child is your child. We are very concerned. We’re hoping that our presence will bring this issue to an end. We’re hoping that our presence will throw more light to help anybody who has any information that can help, to come forward with it,” Hon Ghartey stated.

Hon Ghartey said his coming to the families was to show sympathy to them in their period of grief as they continue to worry about their missing daughters.

He said “everybody’s child is my child, so if something happens to someone’s child, I need to show compassion. That is why I am here to sympathize with the family.”
