Sekondi-Takoradi residents misusing new litter bins

The Sanitation Ministry’s quest to improve the sanitation challenges in the country prompted them to mount new litter bins at vantage points across the country during the latter part of 2019. But the laudable initiative is now facing setbacks.

An opinion leader in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis, Mr. Bucknor Baffoe has consequently raised concerns on the bad behavior of residents in Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis and Effia-Kwesimintsim Municipality for disposing refuse into the new litter bins mounted at the vantage points for ‘people on the go’.

According to him, the intent for the provision of the litter bins was to let the citizens drop in the bin any unused waste material such as sachet water rubber, drinking water bottles among others when they commute, to sanitize the city.

However, the attitude of the Ghanaian populace especially indigenes in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis & Effia Kwesimintsim Municipal Assembly have turned the litter bins into household waste bins.

Speaking to aptnewsghana.com reporter, Benjamin Bray, some traders in Takoradi Sub-Metro also directed their anger on  authorities at the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly for the neglecting the bins to overflow its capacity causing nuisance and health hazards.
