Javits Frimpong’s Mother Arrives in US to Bury Son, Demands Justice

The mother of 15-year-old Ghanaian student Javits Badu Nkansah Frimpong, Madam Doris Adu Gyamfi, has arrived in the United States to join her family in mourning her son, who was fatally shot while on his way to school in New York.

Madam Gyamfi arrived in New York on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, six days after the tragic incident that claimed the life of the young Ghanaian in the Bronx.

Upon her arrival, the grieving mother made an emotional appeal for justice, expressing her determination to see those responsible for her son’s death held accountable. “I want justice for my son, that is all,” she said. Her arrival comes amid growing public concern in Ghana and the United States over the circumstances surrounding the teenager’s killing.

Javits Dreamed of Becoming a Medical Doctor

Madam Gyamfi disclosed that her son had aspirations of becoming a medical doctor, a dream that has now been tragically cut short.

Javits had reportedly moved from Ghana to the United States approximately a year ago to join his father, Thomas Frimpong.

He was a Grade 10 student at DreamYard Preparatory School in the Bronx and was pursuing his education when the fatal shooting occurred.

The death of the teenager has left his family devastated and sparked an outpouring of grief among Ghanaians both at home and abroad.

The case has also renewed concerns about youth violence, gun-related crimes and the safety of students in American communities.

Circumstances Surrounding Javits Frimpong’s Death

Ghanaian teenager Javits Frimpong, 15, has been shot dead in the Bronx. His father raises concerns over alleged school bullying as police investigate.

Javits was fatally shot on Thursday, October 29, 2026, while walking to school in the Claremont neighbourhood of the Bronx, New York.

Reports indicate that the incident occurred shortly before 9:30 a.m., near Crotona Park, as the teenager made his way to DreamYard Preparatory School.

According to reports on the investigation, three individuals wearing hooded clothing and surgical masks allegedly approached the teenager, chased him and shot him.

Javits sustained a gunshot wound and was rushed to St. Barnabas Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The New York Police Department (NYPD) is investigating the incident, with robbery, mistaken identity and alleged school bullying among the possible motives being considered.

However, authorities have not established a definitive motive for the killing, and no arrests had been announced as of November 4, 2026.

Ghana Government Supports Bereaved Mother

The Government of Ghana has played a key role in facilitating Madam Gyamfi’s journey to the United States.

Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa earlier announced that the government would cover the mother’s travel expenses to enable her to attend her son’s funeral.

The intervention followed efforts by New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani and United States President Donald Trump to facilitate an emergency visa for the bereaved mother.

Ghana’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has also pledged to work with American authorities to pursue justice for Javits and provide assistance to the bereaved family.

The government’s support has been welcomed by many Ghanaians, who have expressed sympathy for the family following the tragic loss.

Funeral Arrangements Yet to Be Confirmed

Madam Gyamfi’s arrival in New York is expected to allow her to reunite with family members and participate in preparations to give her son a befitting burial.

As of the latest reports, the official funeral date and venue had not been publicly confirmed.

Meanwhile, the growing memorial at the scene of the shooting in the Bronx reflects the deep sadness surrounding the teenager’s death.

The Frimpong family’s demand for justice has become a central focus of the case, as Ghanaian communities in the United States continue to call for a thorough investigation and the arrest of the perpetrators.

For a mother who travelled thousands of miles to say goodbye to her son, the grief is immeasurable. Her appeal remains simple but powerful: justice for Javits Frimpong.
