Musah Adamu extols John Davis as Presiding Member of the Sekondi Takoradi Metro Assembly

Members of the Sekondi Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly are satisfied that Hon. John Sampson Davis is their Presiding Member of the assembly.

Assemblyman for Kwesimintsim Sofo Zongo, Hon. Musah Adamu has revealed to Apt News while extolling the Assemblyman for Anaji West, also known as the “Anaji Mugabe” for his long standing commitment to the work of the STMA spanning over 20 years.

John Davis, a 44-year-old accountant of the Ghana Health Service, was the sole candidate, pulling 65 votes cast, representing 83 per cent with three rejected and one vote against him to emerge victorious.

“He had the numbers and we also feel that he is a long standing assembly, he has walked the ropes so he knows the in and out of the assembly”; Hon Adamu said,

He further added that members were even thinking that people like that should be appointed as the Metropolitan Chief Executive rather than people who are appointed by the President but with foreknowledge about the workings of the assembly.

The Presiding Member position of the assembly became vacant when President Nana Akufo-Addo revoked the appointment of government appointees of the various Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies and that affected the predecessor to Hon. Davis, Hon Yusif Gyampson.

Asked if the assembly rewarded Hon. Davis for his outstanding service to the STMA, Hon. Adamu said “yea, we realized that he is on top of his job”.

“I am a chairman of one of the sub-committees, when we met him as the presiding member we found out that at least he knows a bit of everything; he knows a bit of revenue, a bit of development, a bit of environment, a bit of education”.

“Because, it looks as if he has gone through all those committees before; so he is a good choice and we are all satisfied with that choice”, he said.
